Skincare: The Basics
Hi Everyone! This the first of a few posts on skincare, I’ve chosen to write this in parts so that it is easier to read and follow along.
Firstly, what is the skin? The skin is the biggest organ in our bodies and protects our insides from the environment we live. In today’s day and age many people are not able to take care of their skin because of different types of stresses. When skincare is neglected we end up looking dull and tired, which is something that we all want to avoid.
I’ll take you through the most basic skincare tips and routines starting from the top of our bodies.
The first thing many of us notice about a person is how they look, which is why people who are unable to adequately take care of their faces are turning to medications. This is a big NO. Creams and pills that promise cleaner, healthier and glowing skins may work in some cases but at the cost of your health. These products are filled with harsh chemicals that can damage our skin even further, however, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. When we apply something onto our skin it soaks further than we imagine and whatever we have applied may be transferred into our blood, which is then transported all around the body. One of the most dangerous chemicals that is known to be in some skin whitening creams is mercury. It is therefore, better to take a more natural approach to skincare.
Before you can even start caring for your skin it needs to be clean! For this, I use a routine that is extremely simple and effective. I call this an ETM routine, which stands for Exfoliating, Toning and Moisturising. Below is an example of an ETM routine.
ETM Routine (Exfoliating, Toning and Moisturising)
Step One: Exfoliating
What you need:
- Coarse Brown Sugar
- Raw Honey
- Cotton Pads or Face Cloth
What to do:
- Firstly, get one fresh lemon and cut it in half.
- Add a very small amount of honey on the lemon and blend it evenly across the surface
- Add about a teaspoon of sugar on top of the lemon and honey.
- Start gently rubbing the coated lemon on your face, avoiding the area around your eyes.
- Rub for as long as desired and then leave the mixture on for 10-15 minutes
- Wipe of the mixture with a face cloth and wash with warm water.
- Pat the face dry and apply your preferred moisturiser onto your skin
The above routine is the first step for clear healthier skin, the lemon acts as a bleaching agent and helps in evening out the skin tone gradually. The honey acts as an intensive moisturiser that repairs your skin. The sugar is the exfoliator and sloughs off any dead skin and impurities. I recommend using a moisturiser according to your skin type and one that has Vitamin E in it as this vitamin helps prevent wrinkles on the skin. For now I sign off and hope that the simple ETM routine helps you begin your journey to healthier skin. For any inquiries please feel free to contact me on: firstname.lastname@example.org
